California Institute of Technology Degrees

The California Institute of Technology  (simply referred CIT,or Caltech ) is founded in 1891 as a preparatory and vocational school. Caltech is a private (non-public) research university which is located in Pasadena, California, USA. Although founded as a school by Amos G. Throop, the college (Caltech) influenced influential scientist likes Arthur Amos Noyes, Robert Andrews Millikan, in addition to George Ellery Hale in the beginning of 20th century. The university’s current name was changed in 1921. In the Association of American Universities, Caltech was selected as a member in 1934. Caltech is one of the members of small reputed group of Institution of Technology in the United States which provides best consultant service to the instruction of technical arts and applied sciences

The California Institute of Technology has 6 institutional divisions with giving strong emphasis on science and engineering, managing $332 million dollar amount of sponsored research in United States in 2011. The main campus is located in northwest of downtown Los Angeles having 124-acre (50 ha) area of the university. There is compulsion to live on campus for first-year student, and more than 95% of undergraduates students live in the on-campus house system of the university. Although Caltech has strong culture of practicing pranks and jokes, student life is monitored by a very honor code which permits faculty to assign take-home examinations. The Caltech Sports team (Beavers) participate in 13 intercollegiate sports in the NCAA Division III.

Caltech is one of the best universities of the world. Even it has small size of 33 alumni and faculty comparatively; Caltech alumni have won 34 Nobel Prizes all total and 71 have received the National Medal of Science or Technology of United States. 112 faculty member of Caltech have been selected to National Academies. Besides these, several faculty members are associated with the NASA, as well as Howard Hughes Medical Institute (Reputed Institute of world).

Academics & Degrees

Caltech has been accredited (recognized) by the Western Association of Schools and College from 1949. The institute is highly residential university with graduate and undergraduate programs. It’s programs are run on quarter system.

Since 2011, Caltech is ranked in first position internally by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. In the two categories: Engineering & Technology and Physical Science, Caltech was rated as the best university of the world. Besides, the university is ranked in top 10 positions by various ranking institutions like Academic Ranking of World Universities, Money Magazine, US News & World Report and the United States National Research Council.

The program of full-time, four-year undergraduate emphasizes instruction/education in the arts and sciences and it is highly coexisted with graduate program. The California Institute of Technology offers 24 major (called “options”) and 6 minors across all six academic/institutional division. It also offers interdisciplinary programs in Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Applied Physics,  Computation and Neural Systems,  Environmental Science and Engineering, as well as Control and Dynamical Systems,  Geobiology and Astrobiology,  Planetary and Astronomy, and Geochemistry. The most popular majors are Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Physics and Electrical Engineering.

Most of graduate academic programs give emphasis on doctoral studies and are dominated by technology, engineering, science, and mathematics streams. Caltech offers graduate degree programs for the Master of Science, Engineer's Degree, Doctor of Philosophy, BS/MS and MD/PhD, with the majority of students in the PhD program. The most popular options are Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Electrical Engineering and Chemical Engineering. There is also a joint program between UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine & Caltech offer  MD/PhD degrees. Students in this program do their preclinical and clinical work at UCLA, and their PhD work with any member of the Caltech faculty, including the Biology, Chemistry, and Engineering and Applied Sciences Divisions. The MD degree would be from UCLA and the PhD would be awarded from Caltech.
